Bird Sea from the ‘Isolate’ series

Bird Seabird-sea-image1sm

breaks in the daylight sketch of handling the mental wear
as the hedgerow balances between a robin and a wren

how they swing their tongues gathering vibrations with a
meady lilt as we drop scarf or hat walking toward the wood

up its brambled banks between the rising bluebell fronds and ivy
in the sculpted shade specked with droppings and hope inside the green

distantly the droning docks still carbonise but who would stop the storm
grey navy commanding stevedores welding beneath crane and pump

the carpark plateau its castle virtue the vacated wave and sliding pool
the easterly and its sacrifice for lent forego the we do nothings

the sun seeks its bed below the cliff edge sea and field’s
short pasture grass whose blades casts shadows longer than the hill

we are walking to this smile crack dusk a place redeeming
souvenirs of what future holds cradling some had been child

who dances with the words it says as a spark at moonlight
rises crescenting there in the venus flickering to its halo

a chip of tooth confirms its age and asks permission to escape
beyond imagination’s fence just as a squirrel darts from grey

to autumn red surprised we stopped just then listening to the birds
competing with the other sounds making wind and stormy sea

  1. Love this atmospheric, beautifully descriptive, poem reminiscent of coast nearby at Portishead ; great trip there whilst in lockdown ! love to be in touch as myself Judy and Husband Pete are open mic participators in our area .

Glad to hear you’re making things happen up in Nailsea and Portishead, if you have anything coming up let me know and I’ll try to get it into The Poetry Point posts xmac
